If you are going to 'Third World Countries' or foreign speaking places, I suggest you buy a few books before you leave.
Buy on-line, scour bookshops including the secondhand treasure troves, and Rotary often have great book clearances too.
Another good find at Op Shops.
You can swap them when you finish with other tourists.
This is especially important with children’s books – you don’t want to be paying full price for a book they read in a night.
They can then donate to school libraries.
You can always find bargain books and send them on, though if you have ever read 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert, you will fondly recall the books she sent herself from USA to Rome never arrived. thanks Jane for recommending this great read!
